SSWE

  • The 2016 South Sudan National Wrestling Tournament concluded on April 23rd, with the Jonglei team defeating the Terekeka team in the championship match. Eastern Lakes finished in 3rd place and Imatong in 4th place. Thanks to everyone who participated and came out to support this year’s tournament, the thousands of fans in the crowd made the event a huge success. Thanks as well to our partner USAID for all of their support in making this tournament happen this year. We have already received a report of how some of the wrestlers after the tournament came together to address cattle raiding issues that were occurring in their communities – which led to the successful return of some stolen cattle. This is what the tournament and SSWE is about – bringing people together from across communities, building relationships and celebrating a common national identity. South Sudan’s wrestlers are a source of pride and we look forward to future tournaments to come. Check the website and follow us on twitter (@SSWE16) for updates on future tournaments and any future success stories. Below are some links to SSWE and South Sudan’s wrestlers in the media.
